The Advocacy Center is always working toward our mission to protect and advocate for the human and legal rights of persons living in Louisiana who are elderly or disabled. Advocacy Center News2008 Advocacy Award Recipients Announced The Advocacy Center is delighted to announce its Advocacy Award Recipients for 2008. The awards will be presented at the Advocacy Center’s biannual Advocacy Award Ceremony. This event, which will be held on October 17, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is always a celebratory evening during which we pause to reflect on the good work of the people being honored. Notice of Lawsuit - All Legally Blind Individuals Who Have Attempted To Access Target.Com Since February 7, 2003 May Have A Claim. Housing Rights Trainings Coming Soon! - The Advocacy Center, in conjunction with the LSU Human Development Center, is sponsoring two workshops on housing rights in Louisiana. One will cater to landlords and the other will be for people with disabilities and service providers. Emergency Planning for People with Disabilities - The Advocacy Center has conducted surveys of parish plans for people with disabilities in the event of a disaster and has developed additional tips to help people with disabilities plan for a disaster. New Grants and Programs Update - Updated information on the Louisiana UPHIL (United For Progress for Housing in Louisiana ) Project and WIPA (Work Incentive Planning and Assistance) programs. Barthelemy Successes and Challenges - Barthelemy v. Hood is a class action suit that was filed in 2000 on behalf of people living in nursing homes and people at imminent risk of entering a nursing home who preferred and could benefit from home and community based services. Chisholm v. Hood Fact Sheet and Chronology - Chisholm v. Hood is a class action lawsuit filed by the Advocacy Center in 1997 to make Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) live up to its obligation to arrange for necessary services under regular Medicaid to children on the MR/DD Waiver waiting list. |
